How eager are you to see the children again?

We do see them on the zoom and Ms teams classroom but it is not the same. And, though we are very eager to hug and kiss our children, we know we cannot because of Covid-19 social distancing. This is sad but it is the best for the children at this time.

What plans are you putting in place to protect students and teachers?

First, all staff have been encouraged to go for the test and return with clearance of Covid-19. Secondly, we have mapped out a floor plan already to ensure distance between children. More washing bays are being set up at the entrance of school and sanitizer dispensers will be placed in every classroom. We have purchased more temperature guns for checks at the entrance and also intermittently during lessons by the school nurse. Face masks will be provided for staff, while parents will provide for their children. There will be extras in school for those days parents forget. The baby handlers will use hand gloves and sanitized overalls. School will be sanitized before the children come in in the morning and after school every day.

Is online or home schooling a good replacement for school?

Remote learning has come to stay. Remote learning is good but there cannot be a case of replacement. I see a good balance in the future. Social interaction and play are critical to the socio-emotional well-being, the cognitive, psychomotor and affective growth and development of the children particularly for Nursery and Primary school children.

What plans are you putting in place for teachers to ensure they are safe and healthy?

Like I said before all the staff must come with clearance from recognized Covid-19 test Centers. We will also encourage parents to do the same because there is no way to know if they themselves are not carriers! So for everyone’s safety, we must all get tested and cleared. This is the most critical step to ensure everyone is safe. Regular and constant sanitization of the school is the next step. We have a trained registered nurse in the school and a retainer with a good hospital for emergencies.

How do you intend to monitor teachers’ contact after school?

Teachers are adults. They know not to hug and shake hands. Working even in the staff room will be at the specified distance and talking will be with their masks on. Monitoring can only be effective within the school premises. We do not have control over what teachers do outside of the school premises. We can only hope they will be sensible and keep to the guidelines.

What are the plans you are making to take care of any student or staff member infected  with COVID-19?

We have a retainer-ship with a very good hospital that has an ambulance. Also we have the contact details of the Lagos State Government Ministry of Health and the Covid-19 Centre.

What are you doing in terms of layout or seat arrangement in your schools to take care of social distancing?

That has been taken care of. Luckily we have large classrooms with small population so the specified 6feet distance was achieved. The larger populated classes have been split in 2, giving 2 arms where there was one before.

Any plan for staggered arrival and departure at school gates?

The modalities for this as a possibility are still being discussed. However, we are fully aware that this will be very difficult considering the fact that parents have to go to work.

What plans do you have for doors and handles? Are you going to do anything to reduce touch?

Our first point is to keep all doors open to prevent children and others from having to touch them. However, we know that there are some doors like the toilets that the children will definitely touch. So in preparedness for this, our nannies will make sure that the doors and handles are constantly wiped down with alcohol.

Will children still be playing outdoors?

Yes children will play outdoors under close supervision. Fresh air is good for ventilation and sunlight is also very good to fight this virus. However, break time will be staggered to reduce the numbers on the playground at any given time.

Any installation of hand sanitiser   dispensers or  washing basins?

Yes. Wash hand basins at the entrance to the school and at the playground. Hand sanitizer dispensers at the entrance and in every classroom.

Any plan to have face masks in store?

Yes.
