The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU), University of Lagos branch, has scolded the Federal Government for its insincerity on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The Acting Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Lagos chapter, Comrade Olusola Sowumi, said SSANU members, though enrolled in the scheme, had not been paid since November.

Sowumi, at a recent family meeting with the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said the union was uncomfortable with government’s implementation. “We have other issues that school cannot attend to which are national issues. But concerning IPPIS, we are not comfortable with the way the government is handling the issue.”

Recall that the Federal Government had directed all government workers to enroll in an integrated personal Payroll Institution System with a circular issued on stoppage of salary of workers not enrolled in the IPPIS system.

However, the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) told its members to ignore the directive and proposed alternative payroll software to cater for its concerns.

According to Sowumi, SSANU opted for IPPIS with the intention of getting paid, as promised by the Federal Government but still no action on payment. He described the situation as a disheartening one, adding that the Federal Government was not sincere with the union.

The VC however urged all unions to be united towards contributing their quota to the university’s growth and development.
