The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has responded to claims made by Aminat Yahaya Suleiman in a Tiktok video alleging that she was scheduled multiple times to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to JAMB’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benjamin Fabian, Aminat’s claims are false, and the candidate had registered for the exam in Abuja but relocated to Ibadan without notifying JAMB through the change of location option available on its portal.

Dr. Fabian further explained that JAMB’s investigation revealed that Aminat Yahaya Suleiman and her sister, Zainab Yahaya Suleiman, shared the same phone using two different numbers, both registered with JAMB, which led to the multiple messages received on the same phone.

The investigation also found several indications that Aminat may have registered twice using two different National Identification Numbers (NIN). This included similarities between the photos on the JAMB portal for the two registrations and issues with the use of awaiting results for the NECO exam she wrote at the age of 14 in 2018.

Additionally, JAMB noted another suspicious activity whereby both candidates had filled in forms on the JAMB portal choosing to study Islamic Studies at the University of Abuja with the same surname and middle name.

Fabian said her claim that she was in Ibadan and was asked to go to Abuja to write the exam was false because candidates were the ones to choose locations where they would write UTME and the option of change of location existed.

“There are two fundamental issues we want to establish: when she filled her form, did she pick Ibadan and JAMB pushed her to Abuja to write the examination or she picked Abuja to write her exam?

“The second one is: was she rescheduled to write this exam and then rescheduled again? These are the fundamental issues.

“When we send a message to her, we discover that the message goes to another candidate. Who is this candidate? We want to know the identity?” Fabian said.

Saheed Oladele, the social media influencer who brought attention to Aminat’s situation and accused JAMB, has now apologized to the commission for the resulting confusion and expressed gratitude to them for permitting the candidate to take the exam in Ibadan.
