A petrol-laden tanker is currently on fire at Toyota Bus-stop, near Oshodi/Airport Road, in front of the the Lagos State Fire Station. Firemen are currently fighting the fire, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
According to NEMA, the incident happened at about 9:15 a. m. The tanker was said to be carrying about 40,000 litres of PMS before it crashed on the side with another trailer on the motion. The trailer was fully loaded with iron rods. The trailer body separated from the head.
It was believed that the two vehicles were trying to outsmart each other before the incident happened. The agency said the content is suspected to be Jet A1 gasoline.
So far, no casualty has been confirmed.
NEMA said the road structures area badly affected, adding that efforts were on to carry out integrity tests on them especially the pillar of the bridge linking the Airport from Apapa – Oshodi way.
The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu is yet to comment on the incident.
Dampening of the area has commenced as the inferno is being managed by men of Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, and other relevant agencies.
