The Kaduna State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has expressed concern over the prolonged power outage in the institution.
The chairman of the chapter, Peter Adamu, in a statement in Kaduna on Thursday, called for the restoration of power to the institution.
According to him, the university is experiencing a total system collapse due to the prolonged power outage running into months, ranging from seven months for the Kafanchan campus to about one month at the main campus.
Adamu noted that the union had, on several occasions, engaged the management over the matter while adding that the examination scheduled to commence on October 10, 2023, could not hold.
Besides, he said office work had become homework as the university staff members were forced to carry out research from home where they were sure of electricity supply.
He, therefore, warned that the management of both institutions must not allow the students to go on the rampage before containing the problem.
The statement partly read, “It is sad that the system had been subjected to such ridicule and we foresee a huge embarrassment if the management relented in its efforts.
“This portends danger and the university’s progress recorded over the years might gravitate towards retrogression.

“Management must not allow students to go on a rampage before attempting to contain the problem. This, in our opinion, will be more embarrassing to the university.”
Adamu added, “This precarious situation has opened up a vista of thought-provoking discussions among staff on the one hand, and students on the other. In all of these discussions, the indicators portend imminent academic stagnation and a dangerous end.
“There is a feeling of pessimism, hopelessness, despair, despondency and dissent premonition that if the management of the university did not redouble their efforts, the end to this ugly situation might not be palatable.”
