Kano Govt Allocates N800m for Mass Wedding Scheme, Aims to Wed 1,800 Couples

Kano State government has recently announced the allocation of N800 million towards a mass wedding scheme, with the aim of facilitating the marriage of 1,800 couples. 

It was gathered the N800 million allocated by the state government was used to procure furniture, food items, and clothing materials for 1,800 intending couples.

According to the state Hisbah board commander, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, each of the 1800 brides would be entitled to a set of beds with mattresses and pillows and N20,000 to start up a business.

He said the 1,800 couples would profit from the generous gift, which would go a long way towards reducing societal vices and poverty, as many marriages were postponed due to parents’ inability to finance the wedding

Daurawa, while inspecting the items procured, noted that there were criteria to be looked out for before the selection of intending couples into the state’s mass wedding scheme.

He added that any groom found divorcing his wife after the marriage would be required to pay for the products acquired from the state government.

The Hisbah boss, according to the Nigerian Tribune, pointed out that benefactors and affluent persons have also committed to contribute their fair share to ensure the success of the mass wedding, while appealing to wealthy individuals to support the government by assisting the less privileged.
