A 17-year-old schoolgirl, Habeebah Akinsanya, was found dead on Sunday after being kidnapped in the Mile 6 community in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, despite her father paying a ransom of N1 million to the kidnappers.”

Habeebah, a student of Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta, was abducted on Friday, leaving her family in turmoil. Her father, Akinsanya Aremu, a member of the So-Safe Corps, reported the kidnapping to the Kemta Police Station, Abeokuta, immediately after it occurred.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N1 million for her release, which Aremu paid into an Opay account provided by the kidnappers. However, despite fulfilling their demands, the father’s worst fears were realised when he was instructed to retrieve his daughter’s lifeless body at a location near Obasa, a few kilometres from the OGTV/Mile 6 area.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my daughter’s body mutilated and covered with soldier ants,” Aremu said, fighting back tears. “I had thought that paying the ransom would save her life, but it seems that the kidnappers had other plans.”

The kidnappers had brutally murdered Habeebah, leaving her with multiple machete wounds in three places on her body. A source hinted that the kidnappers had audaciously contacted Aremu again, demanding a second ransom, which he refused to pay.

Habeebah’s death has left the Mile 6 community in shock and mourning, raising serious concerns about the safety and security of residents in the Gateway state.
