Kogi governor suspends VC, rector over TSA

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has suspended the Vice Chancellor of the State University, Prof Abdulkadir and the Rector of the State Polytechnic, Prof Mohammed Atureta for not complying with the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy of the state government.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fannwo, confirmed the suspension.

According to the commissioner, the TSA was introduced for revenue accruing to the state to be properly harnessed.

He said the state government supported the TSA in order to fulfill its financial obligations to the people, block loopholes and generate more revenue. TSA is said to check corruption in the system and promote accountability.

The commissioner said every legitimate revenue was needed for the governor to deliver the promises made to the people and set in motion the modality for the implementation of the national minimum wage.

“For some time now, there have been circular directing all agencies, departments and parastatals to operate under TSA but for inexplicable reasons, they have failed to heed this directive. The suspension of the affected officials will send strong signal to others that this administration means business with the TSA policy,” the commissioner said.

He urged top management of agencies and ministries to abide by the new financial guidelines as defaulters would not be shielded.
