Lagos Governor Inaugurates Oshodi-Abule Egba BRT Corridor

 Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the newly completed Oshodi to Abule Egba Bus Rapid Transit Corridor.

Sanwo-Olu, who also unveiled 550 high and medium capacity buses that would be plying the corridor, took a ride in one of the buses from Oshodi where he unveiled the e-ticketing booth, to Iyana Dopemu, where the ceremony was held.

The governor noted that the project would bring relief to motorists and Commuters plying the route and reduce travel time by seventy – five percent, on a daily basis.

Sanwo-Olu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the clearing of the dedicated buses amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that between sixty to eighty thousand passengers are expected to be conveyed daily on the corridor which is one of the busiest in Lagos.

The Governor, who also unveiled a Contact card with which residents can pay for their journey, said 100,000 of the cards would be distributed free to intending passengers.

He urged residents to take ownership of the project and keep the buses, bus stations and terminals free of refuse.

Promising to fulfill his agenda of a more efficient transport system in the State, Sanwo-Olu stated that the red line project, which is one of the Lagos intra-city rail systems on the corridor, would be completed in the next 24 months.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Transportation, Fredric Oladeinde, explained that the Oshodi-Abule-Egba BRT corridor was part of the State’s Strategic master plan which would be extended to Ota, the border between Lagos and Ogun states.

Speaking on the scope of the project, the Managing Director of the Lagos Area Metropolitan Transport Authority (LAMATA), Abimbola Akinajo,  announced that eleven new pedestrian Bridges were constructed while three existing ones were rehabilitated to prevent people from dashing across the 13.68 kilometres road.
