Lagos Orders Maximum Of 20 Students Per Class As Schools Resume

As schools across Lagos State re-opend on Monday for exit students to  allow SS3 students to study and seat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination ( WASSCE) which is set to commence of August 17, 2020, the state government has directed that no more than 20 students should be allowed to accommodate a classroom. 

As part of its activities to ensure compliance of public and private schools to COVID-19 protocols and guidelines for schools reopening, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, led a monitoring team  to pay random visits to some schools across the State.

Addressing journalists  during an inspection tour of some public and private schools at Education District IV around Yaba, Surulere and Apapa axis, Mrs Adefisayo expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness of the schools, adding that the state government is very concerned about the safety of students and their teachers.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Tutor Generals/Permanent Secretaries of the Six Education Districts, Office of Education Quality Assurance and other top officials of the Ministry were also on field across the State to ensure that maximum compliance and coordination was achieved.

The inspection of schools is expected to continue until all schools in the state have undergone scrutiny. The Commissioner noted that any school accommodating other students apart from SS3 and TEC3 contrary to the state government’s directive at this period will face disciplinary action.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Abosede Adelaja, noted that the Lagos State Government had provided free face masks and sanitisers for all students. She also added that aside from fumigating the schools and ensuring a clean and conducive environment for learning, the state government has also provided facilities such as wash hand basins and potable water.

She, therefore, reiterated that all policies made by the government with regards to Covid-19 protocols should be strictly adhered to while adding that visitors and food vendors are not permitted to be on any school’s premises.
