Lagos State set for Y2020 Governor’s Quiz Competition Final

As part of efforts geared towards engaging the students thereby creating opportunities for them to participate in programmes virtually while at home, the Lagos State Government has revealed plans for the Year 2020 Governor’s Quiz Competition.

Disclosing this in an interview from her office at the Secretariat, Alausa,  Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, stated that the programme is an initiative of the Ministry of Education aimed at testing the knowledge of students – both in government and private  schools- as well as ensuring that they are always prepared to take up any proficiency test.

In a statement by the Head, Public Affairs, Ministry of Education,  Kayode Abayomi, in Lagos on Wednesday, Adefisayo noted that the Governor’s Quiz Competition, which is an annual event is being held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and adaptation to the ‘new normal.’

She explained that students/schools have been selected across the Six Education Districts of the state to participate in the preliminaries which will herald the Grand Finale coming up on August 7, 2020.

She said, “The ministry has taken time to study the peculiarities that comes with the guidelines of keeping safe as well as ensuring social distancing and has deployed all necessary technical expertise to ensure that our students can compete in any competition or attend seminars virtually.”

The Commissioner implored parents/guardians to enable their children/wards have access to watch the programme and learn from the event which is highly competitive.

According to her, viewers can watch via the live streaming on Lagos State Ministry of Education’s Facebook page @lasgeducation or YouTube @Education LASG. She affirmed that the Grand Finale will be held on Friday, 7th August, 2020 at 10:00am, adding that the competition will be moderated by a renowned Quiz Master, Mr. Olusegun Adedeji.

Adefisayo said that the ministry will not relent in its efforts towards ensuring  a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning during this COVID-19 period. She therefore urged the students to shun all vices while at home and continue to learn extensively through the radio, television and online platforms.
