Man arraigned for stealing phone, recharge cards in Osun

One Akanmu Waheed, aged 23, has been arraigned before the Osogbo magistrate Court for allegedly breaking into the house of one Sikiru Modinat and stealing properties worth N.4m.

The defendant, Akanmu was arraigned on Tuesday on a four-count charge bordering on felony, unlawful entry and theft.

Police prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun had alleged that the defendant committed the crime on June 5, 2022, at about 2:00am at Ibuowo Street, Okinni, Osun State.

According to the charge bright against him, “Akanmu Waheed on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did steal one Tecno mobile phone valued (N65,000:00k) (2) Recharge Cards valued (N135,000:00k) and (3) cash sum of two hundred and forty eight thousand naira (N248,000:00k total value (N448,700:00k) property of Sikiru Modinat.

“You, Akanmu Waheed on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did steal a cash sum of five hundred naira (N500:00k) property of Baliameen Mariam Temilade.

“You Akanmu Waheed, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did wilfully and unlawfully damage window net and door knob property of Sikiru Modinat.”

The offence is in contravention with sections 414, 390(9) and 45 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State, Nigeria 2002.

Akanmu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

His counsel, Julius Akigbe urged the court to grant bail to the defendant, while noting that the offences he was charged with were bailable under the law.

The presiding Magistrate, A.K Ajala granted the defendant bail with N500,000 and one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned to October 25 for hearing.
