Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, a politician and husband of Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at his home in Uromi on Friday morning, just hours before the Edo State governorship election.
According to reports, armed individuals, believed to be political thugs, stormed Okojie’s residence, claiming to be on official business.
Michael Ihaza, Okojie’s media aide, confirmed the incident, revealing that the attackers arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State license plate.
The situation escalated when security personnel assigned to Okojie intervened, leading to the retreat of two assailants while others were apprehended.
The suspects are reportedly being interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force, with initial confessions suggesting they were dispatched by leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan North-East Local Government Area.
As of now, the Edo State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the assassination attempt, raising concerns over the political climate leading into the elections.
