A 4-year-old boy who plunged 70-feet off a cliff while hiking with his parents walked away from the fall with only a few scratches and bruises in what rescuers are calling ‘nothing short of a miracle.’

The boy was walking along the Princess Arch section of the Red River Gorge Gorge in eastern Kentucky when he slipped and fell, hitting ‘multiple ledges’ before landing about 70 feet below, according to a Kentucky search and rescue team.

The boy’s frantic parents called the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team, which found the boy alert and talking and praised the mostly unscathed boy as a ‘superhero’.

‘Incredibly, while the child was certainly scraped up and bruised, he appeared to be otherwise okay,’ WCSART wrote on Facebook. ‘He was very talkative, and very interested in super heroes. The only super hero present was him.’

The unnamed boy was taken to a hospital for evaluation and checked out fine, much to the relief of his worried parents, WCSART said.

WCSART said the result of the happy ending to the rescue mission was ‘nothing short of a miracle.’

Photos released by the search and rescue team showed a clearly worried mother embracing the shirtless, blonde boy in the forest as his father looked on with his hand on the mother’s shoulder and on his son’s back.

In another photo, the young boy was sitting on his fathers lap with visible scrapes across his legs and knees, his father also appeared to have scratches and scabs across his forearm.

The sandstone arches and towering cliffs in the 42,000-acre geological area southeast of Lexington attract hundreds of thousands of hikers, rock climbers, kayakers and campers each year.

On Facebook, people were praising the boy’s father for not hesitating to go after his son.

‘Way to go, dad! He didn’t hesitate to follow his boy down and bring him back to safety while the mother made sure to get an ambulance there. I can’t imagine the fear they felt or the relief they feel now,’ one person commented.

‘Wow! Amazing,’ another person wrote. ‘Poor mom through all of that with son and husband both gone for a while. She’s probably aged 20 years in one day.’

‘What a story,’ someone else commented. ‘The little boys hero is his dad. I’m glad that the little boy is alright and home with his parents.’
