The National Examinations Council (NECO) has vowed to root out examination malpractice.
NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi said the body would implement measures to tackle examination malpractice.
He spoke at a one-day sensitization workshop on examination malpractice, on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Wushishi said tackling examination malpractice would ensure all-round development in Nigeria.
The NECO boss called for a collaborative effort from relevant stakeholders in addressing the challenge of examination malpractice.
“One of the biggest challenges bedeviling the conduct of public examinations now is the issue of examination malpractice.
“We must therefore take collective responsibility to rid them of this bad habit of wanting to cut corners,” he said.
Wushishi lamented that examination malpractice could discourage hard work among serious students and lower educational standards.
He harped on the need to re-orient the minds of the youths over the issue of examination malpractice because Nigeria can’t develop with such menace.
The NECO boss listed measures to tackle malpractice including effective conduct of accreditation and re-accreditation exercise in schools, biometric data capturing of candidates to check impersonation of candidates registered for the examination, and to help identify miracle centres where examination malpractice is perpetrated.
