Nigerians have expressed their agony and disappointment over the recent fuel price increase and scarcity, which has worsened the suffering and hardship in the country.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) increased its retail price from N617 to N857 per litre, leading to a ripple effect on the masses, with private retailers selling at N900 and above.

The queues at filling stations have persisted, and many Nigerians are frustrated with the government’s handling of the situation. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has demanded an immediate reversal of the pump price of petrol, while the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT) has kicked against the increase and demanded an end to the imposition of toxic economic hardships by the current administration.

Many Nigerians who spoke to Daily Post expressed their pain and suffering, citing the effects of the fuel price increase on their daily lives, including increased transport fares and food prices. Some have called for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu, while others have criticized the government’s insensitivity to the people’s plight.

An Energy Expert, Eleojo Joseph, described the increment as done in bad faith, citing the timing and the government’s inability to address the fuel subsidy removal. He also attributed the scarcity to NNPCL’s lack of funds to import fuel and its exhausted credit line with suppliers.

The federal government has assured Nigerians that the fuel crisis will soon be a thing of the past, but it remains to be seen how the meeting between the Vice-President and the GMD of NNPCL will resolve the twin issues of pricing and scarcity.
