Nigerians Rally Behind Tunde Onakoya in Bid for Guinness World Record with 58-Hour Chess Marathon

Nigerians around the world are showing their support for renowned chess master Tunde Onakoya as he embarks on a historic journey to break the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous chess marathon. Onakoya, known for his exceptional skills on the chessboard, announced the commencement of the marathon through his X account, declaring, “Game time.” He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “We haven’t even started yet and Nigerians are already trooping into camp out with me.”

The monumental challenge is taking place in the heart of New York City’s iconic Times Square, with the marathon kicking off at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, and scheduled to conclude at 8 p.m. on April 19.

Onakoya is prepared to engage in an intense battle of wits, aiming to play chess continuously for 58 hours without suffering a single defeat. This endeavor seeks to surpass the current Guinness World Record, set by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway on November 11, 2018, which stands at 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.
