Nobel laureate, Soyinka, refutes faulting FG on WASSCE

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has refuted a statement attributed to him in which he was said to have faulted the Federal Government over the decision to withdraw Nigerian students from participating in the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) organised by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

Soyinka, who celebrated his birthday on Monday 13th of July, according to a statement on the social media credited to him, was said to have described the withdrawal from the WAEC exam as unfortunate politicking.

According to the debunked statement, “Examination cannot hold because Coronavirus is a grave danger to students but elections can hold because it is an agenda to politicians.”

Lifting the lids on the statement, the 86-year-old literary icon denied speaking on the cancellation of the WAEC examination by the Federal Government due to pandemic.

Soyinka described the statement as fake news, wondering why his name would be brought into the conversation by people who have a sinister agenda against the government.
