Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that his meeting with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is brotherly rather than political, noting that he did not make the statements credited to him.

Tinubu visited the former president in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday.

In a statement on Saturday, Kehinde Akinyemi, media aide to Obasanjo, quoted his principal as saying that he is dissatisfied with reports about the meeting.

“The discussion during the visit was more brotherly than political,” Obasanjo said.

“Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statements on the discussion and those crediting to me statements I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good.”

The speaker, who was present at the meeting, said Obasanjo made encouraging statements about Tinubu’s aspirations and prayed for the APC candidate.

“What I heard there, what Obasanjo said, the victory of Asiwaju is assured,” Gbajabiamila said.

“Obasanjo spoke at length and we were all happy. He embraced our candidate like a brother, gave him a pat on the back, and prayed for him copiously,” he stated.
