Comedian Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, has finally made his first statement after the ordeal he faced on Saturday. The social media influencer had been whisked by security officials for protesting at the Lekki tollgate in the #OccupyLekkiTollgate protest.

However, earlier this evening it was reported that Debo and 39 other protesters had been granted bail. The Lagos State Police Command also stated that the protesters are to undergo a mandatory COVID-19 test and are expected to present their test certificates on the 2nd of March, 2021.

In a tweet on social media, the comedian has come out to plead for peace from all quarters of the country, stating that all Nigerians are one regardless of tribe. “The Hausa man is my brother, so is the Igbo man and The Yoruba man. We are all one.”, he said. He also said that the problem of insecurity in the country is the fault of the current administration and no one else.

“The Government and the Government alone is responsible for any insecurity in Nigeria and it is their duty to protect all Nigerians. I plead for peace”, he said.

No comment was made recounting his ordeal in the hands of security officials, and he simply said presumably in reference to that, “we will come back to my matter later.”

The #OcuppyLekki protest was organized in response to the ruling in favour of the opening of the Lekki Tollgate. This was met with outrage by Nigerians who were dissatisfied with the findings concerning the alleged massacre of civilians by military officials that was said to have occurred on the 20th of October, 2020.

The military has maintained its stance, denying any form of strong-arming or violence from its camp.
