Residents of Iwoye-Ketu in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State are living in fear due to the recent resurgence of kidnappings and killings in their community.
The community leaders have accused criminal elements among foreigners living in the community of being behind the attacks.
“We are under siege. Our community has become a hotbed of kidnappings, killings, and other violent acts. The perpetrators of these heinous crimes are believed to be members of the Fulani ethnic group, who have taken up residence in our community,” said Semiu Usman-Legitan, chairman of the community.
The community leaders claimed that the attackers have killed several residents, including Kabiru Ogunrinde and Eric Adekanmbi, and have left many others in fear.
“The frequency and brutality of these attacks have instilled fear and anxiety among our people. We have witnessed three separate incidents of kidnapping within our community this August alone,” said Wale Fadipe, secretary of the community.
The community has called for the quick intervention of the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun, relevant government agencies, and international organizations to avoid further bloodshed.
