President Muhammadu Buhari says he held a video conference with the President of the European Council, Mr.Charles Michael on Friday.
This is part of efforts to intensify the push for the election of Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The President in a Tweet said Nigeria would not relent until the goal of electing Okonjo-Iweala is achieved.
Buhari tweeted, “Today I held a video conference with the President of the European Council, Mr Charles Michel. I thanked the Council for its support for
@NOIweala, Nigeria’s candidate for position of Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.
“We will not relent until the goal is achieved.”
Okonjo-Iweala, who is Nigeria’s candidate for the WTO top job, was named the most preferred candidate on Wednesday.
However, the US opposed her candidature.
