Over 1,500 candidates fail Customs promotion exam in Imo

A total of 1,033 candidates succeeded in the promotion exam of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone “C”, Owerri, capital of Imo state out of the 2,900 officers (candidates) that sat the exam.

The Customs Area Controller, Mr. Kayode Olusemire, disclosed this on Thursday as the command decorated 19 new officers in their newly elevated rank.

Decorated are: Seven Chief Superintendents of Customs to Assistant Comptroller, one Superintendent to Chief Superintendent, 10 Assistant Superintendents of Customs to Deputy Superintendents and one Inspector of Customs to Assistant Superintendent II.

He thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Colonel Hameed Ali (retd.) for deeming it necessary for officers to go on promotion.

The Comptroller charged the elevated officers to put in more efforts to duty, adding that when much is given, much is expected.

He said, “You are to prove yourself in terms of character, diligence to duty and hold high the 27 golden rules of customs. Be steadfast and pay less attention to anything that will not give customs prominence and glory in the scheme of things.

“You are now getting towards the management level, where you will now manage human resources and administration and what have you. Therefore there are a lot of responsibilities on your shoulder. Much is expected of you now”.

He therefore advised them to be assiduous in their job, enjoined them to always read, develop their minds where necessary and work fervently.

“By this new rank you are promoted to, it is my wish that you will excel in the new assignment. May God Almighty help and protect you in the course of your duty,” Olusemire added.

For those 1,867 who did not succeed in the exam, Olusemire told them not to relent but continue to prepare for the next batch, which he said, was imminent.

Responding on behalf of other newly promoted officers, an Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Usman Dahiru, thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs for deeming it to promote officers to new coveted ranks.

He also commended the Customs Area Controller for mentoring and teaching them, just as he described him as a role model.

Dahiru said, “For the way and manner you are diligently doing this job and steering the activities of NCS, FOU, Zone “C”, may God Almighty keep on guiding and protecting you and your family”.
