The Commissioner for Education in Bauchi State, Dr. Aliyu Tilde, has revealed that over 200 names of pupils were removed and substituted with ineligible candidates for the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination Council (WASSCE) in the state.

Tilde told reporters on Thursday that the 200 pupils formed part of the 13,000 candidates who registered for the exam across 30 of the 170 examination centres in the state.

The commissioner said that the figure might be higher than the reported figure as the government was taking its time to verify the list independently and arrive at the exact figures.

Tilde had on August 16, a day before the start of this year’s examination, raised the alarm that the WAEC list was paddled with ineligible candidates by some principals in their various schools.

He, however, admitted that some of the victims also committed errors at the point of registration adding that the errors cut across biometric and misspellings.
