Over-voting: INEC cancels Abaji Area Council senatorial results

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cancelled the result of the senatorial election in Abaji Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), due to over-voting

The Collation and Returning Officer for Abaji, Prof. Sanni Saka, made this known while announcing the results, yesterday, in Abuja.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Saka, a University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) don, cancelled the results after objections by some party agents because the numbers did not tally.

He had announced that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 9,547 votes, All Progressives Congress (APC) 9,542, Labour Party (LP) 1,789 and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 43.

“The total registered voters are 66,201 and 21,473 were accredited. Total valid votes are 21,112 and 530 were rejected. However, the total votes cast amounted to 21,373,” he said.

According to him, INEC will decide if and when there would be another election in Abaji.

APC polling agent, Suleiman Ango, called for the cancellation of the poll because of some discrepancies in the result.
