Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, met with the United Kingdom (UK) and United States (US) official election observation team on Friday ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
It was gathered that eligible voters in Oyo State are expected to go out en masse today to perform their civic duties by voting for their preferred candidate in the Governor and House of Assembly elections.
Giving an update about their meeting earlier vis his official microblogging account, Twitter, Governor Makinde said he and the election observation team discussed Oyo State’s preparedness to ensure a peaceful and smooth process today, March 18th 2023.
Makinde is seeking reelection on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 governorship election.
The incumbent Governor of Oyo State will go to the poll today to battle opposition from the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin.
No fewer than fifteen party candidates would be contesting the state’s number political position. However, Labour Party (LP) candidate, Akinwale Tayo, appeared among the top contenders with Makinde, Folarin inclusive.
Makinde could not deliver the state for his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the election conducted on February 25th.

Recall that the state leader is among the five aggrieved governors of the PDP, popularly known as the G5, who stood against their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the just concluded presidential election.
Other members of the G5 include the Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike; Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Samuel Ortom (Benue).
