Major calamity was averted on Tuesday when a container-laden truck crashed into the Ojuelegba bridge.

Eyewitnesses said that the truck which was headed inward to Barracks along Funsho Williams Avenue had brake failure, swerved, and then rammed into the bridge.

Although no life was lost, the bridge rails were mangled beyond and residents were left in a frenzy.

“The recovery and evacuation process of the earlier reported container-laden Trailer that hung on the railing of the Ojuelegba Bridge has begun. Area cordoned off, Men on the ground”, the statement read.

Some residents while reacting to the accident expressed their disappointment at the spate of accidents caused by articulated vehicles on Lagos roads.

“We pray the truck is evacuated on time. It has been suggested in the past that all heavy-duty truck drivers should be examined. Because, without doubt, a lot of them drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol. A big menace to motorists,” Lawal Kafaru said.

Another Lagosian, Sola Fadipe said, “I don’t think these trucks should be allowed to make use of the flyover bridges. That is why I don’t feel comfortable anytime I am around all these articulated vehicles especially when I am around this same Ojuelegba Bridge.”
