The alleged ploy to postpone the May 29 handover date from President Muhammadu Buhari to the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has drawn the ire of retirees under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, South West Zone.

The senior citizens acknowledged that all must be done to prevent a needless constitutional crisis in the country while warning those behind the interim government’s action to bury such plotting.

Speaking over the weekend following its zonal meeting in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, the union’s spokesman pleaded with those aggrieved with the outcome of the election to let the judicial system handle the petitions that were brought before it.

However, the pensioners demanded of Tinubu that he develop plans to raise retirees’ living standards, as departing President Muhammadu Buhari has done for the past eight years.

The NUP’s Oyo State Secretary, Abatan, emphasized that the constitution’s stipulated handover date cannot be altered in any way.

“We also want to appeal to those that are going about, threatening that heavens will fall on May 29 if Asiwaju Tinubu is sworn in as the president of Nigeria. Anyone that has any problem about the last election should go to the court.
