The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has condemned the death threat against some Nigerians by a Canada-based woman, Amaka Patience Sunnberger.

The woman had threatened to poison some Nigerians living in Canada, specifically those from Yoruba and Benin ethnic groups, due to perceived “hate” against Igbos.

Obi, in a post on his X account, described the threat as “hateful” and “divisive,” and called for unity among Nigerians. He emphasized that such ethnic bigotry has no place in Nigeria and would not reduce the price of foodstuffs in the market or bring development to the country.

“We must unite and focus on addressing our shared challenges, rather than allowing tribalism and hate to tear us apart,” Obi wrote. “What does a nation achieve through tribal or religious bigotry? Does it contribute positively to development, by fixing our numerous health, education challenges, and pulling people out of poverty?”

Obi urged Nigerians to learn to live together in peace, love, and unity, and to enthrone leaders based on integrity, competence, and compassion.
