More than 27 students and staff were abducted on Wednesday when armed men raided a state-run school in Niger State. One student was also reported to have been killed by the gunmen. The school has since been ordered to shut down by Governor Bello.

Images showing the school’s hostel and classrooms have since surfaced, and the state of the infrastructure has been described as appalling. Nigerians have blasted the Niger state government for the poor state of the school, which, from released images, resembles an abandoned and inhabitable ancient relic.
