Khadija, a 14-year-old girl, recounts how she was lured into prostitution by Ali, only to suffer life-threatening complications after he performed an abortion on her. Tragically, Khadija’s friend, Halima, lost her life during a similar procedure.

According to a report by Ramatu, a 24-year-old freelance female journalist from Kano with support from Women Radio Centre and the MacArthur Foundation. Ali’s modus operandi is insidious. He allegedly recruits young girls, often from impoverished backgrounds, promising them lucrative opportunities in prostitution. Under the guise of providing safe abortions, he exploits their vulnerability, charging them a hefty fee of five thousand naira regardless of the pregnancy’s stage.
Residents of Yan-Doya corroborate these claims, describing how Dr. Ali’s clinic serves as a rendezvous point for underage girls and their clients. Despite repeated encounters with law enforcement, Dr. Ali has managed to evade justice, aided by his financial resources and connections.
Community leaders like Malama Laraba Lawan urge government intervention to end underage prostitution and illegal abortions. They call for initiatives to provide free education and support for indigent families, addressing the root causes of exploitation.
Dr. Sabo Ahmed, a professor of Human Anatomy, reaffirms the illegality of underage abortions, emphasizing the need for swift action against perpetrators. Organizations like the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and the Plateau State Government are urged to hold Dr. Ali accountable, revoking his license and ensuring he faces the full force of the law.
