Residents of Makun community in Sagamu area of Ogun State, Sagamu Local Government, along Lagos- Ibadan Express Way have cried out to the government for help alleging that operatives of the Nigerian police force and the Amotekun Corps are being used as tools of terrorism to disrupt the peaceful dwelling of the locals.
There is ongoing tension in the community over the change of name for a community road.
It was gathered that a ruling had been given by the monarch, Oba Timothy Akinsanya, the Eswusi of Makun on Sunday, April the 18th, 2021 that the name of a road which was formerly recognised as Aiyetoro Road, should forthwith be known as Aiyetoro/Kanuyi Road.
The Sagamu Local Government also approved the name for the community and the street signage was fixed appropriately.
However, operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, attached to Oja-Awolowo Divisional Headquarters Ogun State, and Amotekun Corps in the same area are alleged to have incessantly fomented tension and uproar by their frequent arrests of a number of persons, including the Baale of the community, Lateef Oriola.
The community and the Baale are said to have been intimated and pressured to change the name against the standing ruling recognised by the Oba and the residents.
A source in the community said that On Tuesday, [yesterday], the Amotekun Corps operatives stormed the environment for the umpteenth time, armed to the teeth, in an attempt to erect different name signage.
The source who spoke under the condition of anonymity for fear of being victimised alleged that Makun Community in Sagamu is facing challenges at the hands of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Babatunde Peter Ogunyanwo, who is said to be responsible for tearing the community apart.
The source alleged that Ogunyanwo installed his nephew, Gbenga as Coordinator of Amotekun Corps for Sagamu Local Government and now using him to terrorise the Community.”
“Ogunyanwo family wants to change a major ancient road to their name, which the community has risen against.”

She said “The matter was reported at the Ewusi Palace, and it resolved the named Aiyetoro/Kanuyi Road remain, the report of the decision was presented to the Sagamu local government. The community paid a necessary fee to officiate it and the signpost was erected accordingly.
“Ever since the Baale has been receiving a constant invitation from Sagamu Police Division and the man kept maintaining the stand of the community. However, yesterday’s public holiday, another invite was sent to the Baale to come to the police station again for 3 pm and by 9 am today, officers of Amotekun came in their pickup truck with a signpost with Ogunyanwo Road inscribed on it for installation.”
When Baale was contacted, he was speaking in low times from the station, stating that h was under unlawful detention and oppression.
In a video seen by franktalknow, Amotekun officers, indeed came in a truck can loaded with new street names and poles.
However, it was gathered that the locals resisted them.
Our source said, “The people refused them and that is the video you see.”
It was gathered that the unruly Ogunyanwo family wants the name change by all means, and has printed the name on the invitation to a party.
” What we later heard is that wife of the senior brother of DIG Ogunyanwo wants to celebrate her birthday in a particular church in the community and the invitation card already reads church, Ogunyanwo Road, Makun Sagamu, against decisions of the Palace and Sagamu Local Government. The family is in the habit of flagrantly refusing directives from the palace. And take joy in marching on everyone.”
Efforts to get the reaction of the Sagamu Police Division failed as telephone calls to the DPO rang out twice.
