Police arrest suspected cultists, recover guns in Edo

The police in Edo State have apprehended seven suspected cult members in the State.

Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu confirmed the arrest in a statement.

The alleged members of Eiye and Aiye cults are Andrew Owhoyavwosa, 22, Joseph Meshak, 25, Osazee Solomon, 35, Godswill Obasohan, 25, Charles Odiase, 52, Okoh Peter, 68.

The spokesperson said they were arrested by Ekiadolor sector within Ekowe community.

The seventh one was arrested at Igbe road in Auchi Etsako West Local Government Area.

The police said on July 2, the suspects, on sighting operatives, took to their heels from the scene of their unlawful assembly.

Iwegbu disclosed that the officers chased, caught up and took them into custody.

Two locally made single barrel guns, one locally cut to size single barrel gun and 30 live cartridges were recovered.

Others were first aid box, kolanuts, eggs, cowries, one dead chicken, seven handsets and N30,000.
