Presidential: Obasanjo’s letter more than an incitement, says Chief Osoba

A renowned journalist and a former governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba has described Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter on the conduct of the 2023 presidential election as being ‘more than an incitement.’

He said this on Tuesday while being interviewed on TVC.

Chief Osoba said further that the statement ‘is a provocation to violence’ but the people, have made up their mind not to be provoked.

He said, “Obasanjo’s statement is more than an incitement.

“I believe there is a plan to scuttle the democratic process and I pray this would not happen.

“I see this statement as provocation to violence but the people have made up their mind not to be provoked.”

Recall that the former President released a letter on Monday calling the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu that the process of the presidential election was compromised in some areas, and those should be rectified.

Obasanjo in the letter released in Abeokuta, specifically called on President Muhammadu Buhari to avert what he termed as the looming danger by ordering cancellation of election results in all elections that do not pass the credibility and transparency test.

Chief Osoba said there have been other incitements via the social media which are detrimental to the current democratic process.

“There have been other incitements like saying Ladipo market has been attacked by hoodlums but the president of the marketers has come out to debunk it.

“Some people also said the Igbos have hoisted Biafra flag in Ikeja but that was not correct rather it was the Labour Party’s flag being flown there,” he said.

Chief Osoba quoting a Yoruba adage stated concerning Chief Obasanjo that “An elder should learn not to be pugilistic.”
