The Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities has announced the appointment of Dr Yayale Ahmed, Pro-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, as its new Chairman.
This followed an emergency meeting held at the National Universities Commission on Wednesday.
The new leadership team, inaugurated at the meeting, includes Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, Pro-Chancellor of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, as alternate Chairman. Other members include Prof Nora Daddut, Greg Mbadiwe, Prof Ignatius Onimao, and Mahmud Shinkafi.
According to the Head of Communications of the Committee, Karen Daoor, the new leadership team will lead the Federal Government negotiation team in resolving the ongoing trade dispute with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, Dr Chris Maiyaki, emphasized the role of pro-chancellors in university governance and encouraged innovative strategies for academic excellence.
