Protest rocks Ondo community as indigene kills AAUA student over ‘N1k dispute’

A student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo has reportedly been stabbed to death during an argument over N1,000.

Odunlami Ibukun, the state police command spokesperson, confirmed the death of the yet-to-be-identified student to TheCable Lifestyle on Thursday.

Ibukun said the student’s corpse has been deposited at the mortuary while an investigation has commenced into the matter.

“Yes, it’s true. There are sketchy details around the incident for now. I will have full information about it tomorrow. The corpse of the young man has been deposited at the mortuary,” she said.

The AAUA student was said to have been stabbed to death by a suspected cultist — said to be an indigene of the community — after an argument ensued between them.

The incident has continued to spark a chorus of condemnation among students of the institution.

Some colleagues of the late student hit the streets on Thursday to protest over his death while demanding that justice be served in the case.

It is understood that the irate students set the house of the suspect ablaze.

Some of the protesting students also accused residents of the community of alleged complicity in the death of their colleague.

In the wake of the protest, police operatives were, however, said to have intervened to avert a face-off between the students and residents of the host community.
