President Muhammadu has said that there is no going back on the deadline for the change of old Naira notes to new ones. The deadline is fixed for January 31.
Many Nigerians including members of the House of Representatives have called for an extension of the date as the new Naira notes are yet to be well circulated.
Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor, Godwin Emefiele, has said the apex bank would not extend the deadline.
The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu said in Abeokuta on Wednesday that the policy was put in place to scuttle the 2023 general election starting from February 25.

But President Buhari in a video that surfaced online on Wednesday evening made it clear that the deadline on old currency stays. He said that “his aim is to let Nigerians believe that we respect them as an administration. So, Nigerians should vote for whoever they like and from whichever party. I don’t know why people are complaining.
“Nobody would be allowed to mobilise resources and thugs to intimidate people in any constituency.”
