The House of Representatives has passed a resolution asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to develop a system to remove dead voters from the voters’ register.

This comes after a motion of urgent national importance raised by member Leke Abejide, who highlighted irregularities observed during the 2023 general elections.

Abejide revealed that his late father’s name was still present in the INEC register.

The bill has already been passed by the Sokoto State House of Assembly, meeting the requirements of Section 9(2) of the constitution for two-thirds approval of state assemblies.

The House urged the remaining six State Houses of Assembly to forward their resolution on the bill.

The bill, having been assented to by the President, would extend the retirement age of high court judges from 65 to 70 years.
