RSU students report strange woman “thief” disguised as cleaner

Students of Rivers State University have reported the operations of a thief disguised as a cleaner in the hostel premises of the school, FTN reports.

According to eyewitness accounts, the woman has repeatedly gained access to the hostel premises, often holding a child in hand as part of the rouse.

One RSU student, Wachukwu Ogechi, said she first noticed the woman’s activities in late July. According to Ogechi, the woman had been suspiciously uneasy.

She said, “I’ve seen the woman once or twice, but that day everything seemed strange because she scattered the waste bin everywhere, as though she was looking for something lost and she came immediately they opened the gate of the hostel which is by 5am.

“When I asked her what she was doing , she said she’s a cleaner and she was searching the waste bins for bottles before disposing the waste in the incinerator.

Ogechi, however, said that despite the woman’s claim, she observed her in possession of some items, which she concealed in a nylon bag—sanitary pads were also included.

Days later, other students in the same hostel area reported the suspicious movement of the “cleaner”.

An occupant who wished not to be named said she witnessed the woman arrive at the hostel at 5:00am, which she noted was uncharacteristic of cleaners.

“The lady came at exactly 5am in the morning, which is the time the hostel gates are opened by the general hostel representative,” she said.

According to the unnamed witness, the cleaner lady had said she was looking for disposed plastic bottles, which are usually recycled.

“It is no news that the cleaners of the hostel come by 9-10 am, why would anyone come by 5am to dispose waste bins when the place is still dark? I knew something was wrong and I asked the woman what she was doing with the waste bins and she still insisted that she was a cleaner and was there to collect plastic bottles for a native drink she sells and then dispose the waste bins.

I stated that I have never seen her before and I know all the cleaners of my hostel, but not her.

I also ask her why she always carried the young child and she stated that she wanted the child to assist her in packing bottles

However, the witness explained that upon investigating the dump much later, they realized that the plastic bottles the cleaner had claimed to be harvesting intactly remained in the waste bins. Other materials were later discovered to be missing, including buckets, one of which another student confirmed seeing with the cleaner.

Meanwhile, other hostel members have casted doubt on the reports, explaining that the woman may simply be underprivileged and seeking scraps from the bin.

The students have alerted the school authorities.

Attempts to confirm the reports from school authorities have, however, proved abortive.
