The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced Augustine Eguavoen as the new coach of the Super Eagles, following the rejection of the role by German coach Bruno Labbadia.

Eguavoen, who is the current technical director of the NFF, will lead the team in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

This is Eguavoen’s fourth stint as head coach of the Super Eagles, having previously led the team in 2005-2007, 2010, and 2022.

He led the team to a round of 16 finish at the 2021 AFCON and failed to qualify them for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles are set to play against the Benin Republic’s national team at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, September 7, and then face the national team of Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali three days later.
