Sanwo-Olu visits LASU as VC requests independent power source

Prof. Ibiywemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University has made a special appeal to the Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to the university, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to provide an independent power-generating source for the institution.
She said this would ease the achievement of her six-point vision for the university.
If this request is granted, she said the accompanying high cost of a constant supply of electricity for the academic, administrative and scientific research endeavours of the university would have been eliminated.
The LASU 9th substantive VC also asked for an increase in the monthly subvention coming to the university to enable her to cater for other contingency needs, digitalization of the entire operations of the university and the provision of internet facility for the entire Campus.

Ibiyemi Tunji Bello presented these two demands in her welcome address to the governor at the opening of the 2021 Annual Governor’s Lecture organised by the Lagos State University Alumni Association.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor has commended the governor for demonstrating quality leadership and support for the University by the prompt release of monthly subvention for payment of salaries, immediate release of funds for accreditation, the commencement of the construction of over Nine Thousand bed space students hostel on Ojo Campus and the release of additional four billion Naira to the 2022 University Budget.
“Mr Governor has also taken steps to renovate and revamp the Epe Campus of the University, unprecedented support of the Lagos State University College of Medicine and various ongoing projects across the varsity campuses,” she said.

Listing the roles of a university Alumni association, Prof. Tunji Bello stated:
“The roles of the Alumni Association include: supporting a network of former graduates who will, in turn, help to raise the profile of the University, participating actively in the Institution’s developmental activities, helping to build and grow the Institution’s brand, providing mentoring, internships and career opportunities for young graduates, assisting in the admission of new students, offering of scholarship to potential students and supporting research development through the institution of research grants. The contributions of the Alumni Association are among the factors considered in the ranking of an Institution”.
She, therefore, acknowledged that LASU Alumni Association has not failed in its responsibilities.
According to the VC, the association has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the development of this great University. The institution of the Annual Governor’s Lecture is one of the giant strides taken by the LASU Alumni to demonstrate its commitment to the course of the University.
