Scholarships for indigent students, prizes for outstanding graduates as OSU/OOU Law Alumni hold dinner

It was a night of awards, records of scholarships to indigent students, and community development project on Saturday as the Alumni Association members of the Ogun State University, (OSU), Ago Iwoye, now Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Faculty of Law held their 6th Annual Dinner.
Honourable Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Kudirat Motomori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, (CFR) was among scores of other dignitaries at Marcellina’s Place in Lagos for a breathtaking academic award night and get-together.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the University,  Professor Charles Olufemi Adekoya was also in attendance.
According to the association’s president, Olufemi Sokan, who briefed the audience in attendance on the night, at least 8 students were beneficiaries of a scholarship fund of about ₦1.9 million grant.
Sokan also said there were also food supplies and adoption of students to support them to the law school level and beyond.
While making his speech, Sokan recognised the presence of the important personalities in attendance.
Those present at the ceremony include Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria,  The AIG Adeleke Bode Adeyinka, AIG Zone 2 Lagos & Ogun, the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Mr. Lanre Bankole, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun, FloD, The Vice Chancellor of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Femi Adekoya.
Others are the Dean, Dr. Gbade Akinrinrmade. Immediate Past President OSU/OOU, Mr. Segun Sipeolu, Learned Senior Silks, Senior Members of the Nigerían Bar Associatíon, Senior Officers of the Nigerian Police Force, and other alumni members.
In 2021, the Award Dinner night was skipped as a result of the COVID pandemic.
Sokan said, “Due to the pandemic, our annual dinner slightly suffered a delay for about 2 years but today we are indeed grateful to God that we are able again to observe our annual dinner even in a grand style.
“The Theme of this year’s Annual Dinner has been carefully selected as “Celebrating our Diversity.
“Diversity is the existence of differences among groups of people and individuals based on ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, exceptionalities, language, religion, and geographical area.”
Highlighting his cabinet’s achievements Ṣọkan said the association’s projects have crystalised to development of infrastructural development in the faculty of Law.
“Let me say at this juncture, at the inception of this current administration, there were plans to transform and make better delivery in the areas of Education, welfare, and other relevant areas to, add value and ensure that the wellbeing and welfare of our members, as well as students of the faculty, are adequately taken care of.
“Today, through diversity and embracing a lot of perspectives through inclusion, the association not only supports her members but also the current students through indigene support payment of school fees(In the new session that just commenced October 2022, a total number of eight(8) students were supported by this association in payment of their school fees which total to the sum of ₦I,187,968.00.
Other areas, of support, are the supply of foodstuffs to students during examination who cannot afford it at a crucial time, the adoption of students to support to the law school level and beyond, and of course, our amiable lecturers are not left out as the engine behind
the success of many alumni and those yet to join the noble association.”
