Senegal postpones schools reopening as teachers test positive to COVID-19

Senegal has postponed the reopening of schools after several teachers tested positive to Corona Virus.

The country has recorded 3,739 confirmed cases, with 43 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19, ravaging the world and which has resulted in closure of schools.

Following weeks of Lockdown,  the government, a week ago, began taking teachers from the capital, Dakar, to schools in the other regions in preparation for schools’ resumption, slated for Tuesday.

A ministry of education, in its release announced the suspension of the travel process after several teachers in Ziguinchor, the Casamance south area of the country tested positive to COVID-19.

It was also stated that “Senegal’s President Macky Sall decided to postpone the restart of classes until a later date, in order to avoid any risk of the virus spreading in schools.”
