Vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Shettima, has reportedly said that Northerners are reluctant to support him because of his Kanuri ethnic heritage, Peoples Gazette reports.

“I’m not Hausa, but I am Fulani-blood-related. I’m a Kanuri also, and I have benefited the north more than the other,” the APC vice presidential candidate added.

Providing further clarification, Farooq Kperogi said that  Shettima “only implied Atiku’s people say he’s Kanuri in order to “other” him but that there’s no difference between Kanuri, Hausa,& Fulani because they’re united by Islam and intermarriage.
