The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the last election, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to the statement of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announcing that a token has been sent to senators to enjoy their recess.

Recall that Akpabio, in a video trending online, found himself in an embarrassing situation after revealing that money has been sent to senators to enjoy their holiday.

Recall that the upper legislative chamber, on Monday, concluded the screening and confirmation of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees and thereafter adjourned the plenary to September 26.

Addressing his colleagues before the adjournment motion was moved, Akpabio said ‘a token’ had been sent by clerk of the national assembly, Magaji Tambuwal, to the senators to enjoy their holidays.

He said, “In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly”

The statement led to a rowdy session, and upon realising he was speaking before live television and journalists, Akpabio quickly retracted the statement.

He said, “I withdraw that statement. In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the senate president has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return.”

Reacting via a Twitter post, Sowore said the Nigerian senators often send huge funds to their individual bank accounts to enjoy undeserving holidays while they urged Nigerians to pray for the country.

He tweeted, “They send huge funds to their individual bank accounts to enjoy undeserved holidays and then urge you to pray for your country or send prayers to you.”
