Former governor of Ekiti State , Ayo Fayose, says Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, should rather use dialogue and persuasion instead of escalating tensions in his own State by calling for the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise known as Igboho,  or anyone at this time.

There was tension in Igangan, Ayete in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday as Igboho, a self-acclaimed Yoruba freedom fighter, insisted that kidnappers masquerading as Fulani herders in the area must leave.

But Governor Seyi Makinde  said  nobody had the right to order anyone out of the state and given security agencies a marching order to ensure that peace reigns in the area. In spite of the governor’s order, Igboho insisted that he would fight for his people with the last pint of his blood.

Makinde  declared that his government would not allow anyone hiding under the guise of protecting Yoruba interest to cause ethnic tension and perpetrate crisis in the state.

He maintained that the war which the state and the security agencies need to wage is not against any particular ethnic group but against criminal elements, irrespective of their tribes, religions, or creed.

The governor added that his administration would not allow anyone to threaten the peace of the state by acting unlawfully and saying things that are alien to the Nigerian Constitution, noting that acts that are capable of causing chaos in the state will not be accepted.

However, Fayose said that if the Federal Government  and some governors could ‘dialogue’ with  Boko Haram terrorists, Gov Makinde  should find way of finding lasting peace in the state.

He said, “ Makinde calling all stakeholders to a round-table discussion will not be a misplaced action.

“Any attempt to arrest anyone will cause further threats to the already fragile peace in the West and the country as a whole.  Above all, any unchecked escalation may lead to a state of emergency.”
