Tanker explosion: Two fire victims die in hospital

Two more casualties have been recorded from the Tanker explosion that occurred along Bank Anthony Way, opposite Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State.

According to reports, two victims of the explosion, which was caused by a leaking tanker carrying liquified gas, have died in the hospital despite efforts to save them.

Recall that earlier today, it was reported that three bodies were recovered from the scene.

Acting Zonal Coordinator, South-West Zonal Office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, said the bodies were recovered from the generator house of OPIC Plaza and a restaurant.

“Search and rescue is still ongoing from the collapsed buildings.

“The initial search and rescue activities revealed that 13 persons sustained various degrees of burns. Out of this, nine are males while four are females,” Farinloye said.

According to him, the LPG tanker exploded at about 1032hour on Thursday on the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way opposite Sheraton Hotels and Towers. Ikeja.

Meanwhile, eyewitness sources decried the lack of urgency in rescue efforts yesterday, saying that more people could have been rescued if emergency services were available on time.
