Tanko Muhammad resigns as CJN

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has resigned as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The CJN tendered his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, according to reports.

Muhammad in the letter which he copied to the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, cited ill-health as the reason for his decision.

It was learnt that the CJN resigned on Sunday night, citing ill-health as the reason for his decision.

According to Channels Television, the arrangements are ongoing to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode in an acting capacity.

According to reports, a formal announcement will be made shortly.

His resignation came a few days after 14 justices of the Supreme Court lamented the decrepit state of affairs in the apex court.
