Three shot as gunmen invade village in Osun

Three people were shot late on Sunday by some suspected gunmen, who invaded Koka Village in the Obokun Local Government area of Osun State.

According to The Punch, about eight gunmen invaded the village around 11: 30 pm.

It was gathered that the attackers divided themselves into two groups, with the first set of four men entering houses and bringing out the residents, while another set mounted surveillance on the road leading into the village.

A resident, simply identified as Tayo Ola, said a building that the gunmen entered first when they arrived the village was damaged with a bullet.

Ola also said three villagers were shot but none was taken away by the attackers, adding that the arrival of hunters put them under pressure and made them fled into the bush.

When contacted, Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident.

Opalola said, “Some herdsmen on Sunday attacked Koka Village in Obokun Local Government Area, and attempted to abduct some villagers.

“Villagers and hunters mobilised and engaged the attackers in a firefight and liberated themselves. Three villagers sustained bullet wounds. Those injured were responding to treatment at Asubiaro State Hospital, Osogbo.

“Police have drafted operatives to join locals on search operation to apprehend the fleeing suspects.”
