 President Bola Tinubu welcomed his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, at the public presentation of books chronicling the former president’s administration.

Tinubu, who took office in May 2023, reminisced about Buhari’s long career serving Nigeria, from his military service to his four presidential runs and eventual historic win in 2015. He lauded the authors of the presented books, Femi Adesina and the team behind “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015-2023),” for giving the public an “authoritative account” of Buhari’s stewardship.

Tinubu highlighted Buhari’s leadership during tumultuous times, including a spiraling economy and the Boko Haram insurgency that threatened the nation’s sovereignty. He commended Buhari’s efforts in reclaiming territory from the terrorists and pushing them back, promising to “stamp out the remaining vestiges” of such threats.

However, Tinubu didn’t shy away from acknowledging unresolved challenges. He stated, “Whatever unresolved challenges faced by President Buhari in his eight years, our administration will endeavour to resolve them.” This pledge indicates a strong focus on continuity and building upon Buhari’s existing plans.

Tinubu outlined his vision for the future, stating his administration would “continue to work, from where President Buhari stopped, to make our country better, create a vibrant economy and secure the environment to bring more prosperity to our people.” He highlighted specific projects initiated by Buhari, such as the second Niger Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and Abuja-Kaduna rail line, promising to complete them and embark on even more ambitious infrastructural advancements, citing the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway as a prime example.
